A Lip Lift, also known as a Bullhorn or Subnasal Lip Lift, is a surgical procedure designed to shorten the philtrum—the distance between the nose and the upper lip—enhancing lip shape and creating a youthful, well-balanced appearance. This technique reveals more of the pink part of the upper lip (vermillion) and slightly rolls the lip outward for improved definition and volume, without fillers.
A fine incision is made at the base of the nose in a curved ‘bullhorn’ shape. A precise strip of skin is removed, and the underlying tissues are gently lifted. The incision is closed with fine sutures, hidden in the natural crease beneath the nose. This technique shortens the philtrum and subtly enhances lip eversion.
In some patients, the outer corners of the lips may turn downward, giving a tired or sad appearance. A corner lip lift can be performed as a standalone procedure or in combination with a bullhorn lift. It involves small incisions at the corners of the mouth to elevate and recontour the lateral aspect of the lips, giving a more cheerful, upturned shape.
Ideal candidates have a long philtrum or thin upper lip that disappears when smiling.
If the outer corners of your mouth turn downwards, a corner lift can gently elevate and improve balance.
The bullhorn incision is well-concealed under the nose; corner lip lift scars fade well and are placed carefully.
